We were guided through the meeting by Daniel Čarnoký, Anna Drab Alexyová, Maroš Valent, and Pavol Gomboš. Together with their colleagues, they push the boundaries of technological services that ultimately impact patients’ lives every day.
Better in a Narrow Segment Than Average at Everything
Arcondis has consciously chosen not to operate on the broad highway of generic IT. The company focuses exclusively on the life sciences and healthcare sectors. It does not develop its own product that needs to be sold at any cost. Instead, it acts as a neutral partner. Clients receive the solution that is best for them, not the one that is most profitable for the supplier. This model requires deep expertise and trust.
A Foundation Instead of Shareholders
Arcondis does not operate as a traditional corporation. A foundation stands above the company. Profits are reinvested into development, people, expansion, and socially beneficial projects. When the war in Ukraine broke out, support was directed there. When innovative startups emerge, they receive backing. Arcondis is primarily oriented toward long term impact rather than quarterly results.
Košice as a Center of Expertise
The Košice team consists of approximately 60 experts. It is not a massive delivery center handling dozens of projects. On the contrary, Arcondis manages fewer applications but with greater depth. Part of the team works for a global manufacturer of medical devices, supporting systems involved in the production of implants and specialized medical equipment. In some cases, timing is critical, measured in hours from an operating room order to a final sterilized product ready for surgery. Another area focuses on research and development, including the development of medicines, vaccines, and complex biological products. The applications managed by the team must comply with strict European and American regulatory standards. Every intervention is tested repeatedly until absolute quality assurance is achieved.
IT That Understands Context
“We are not just programmers,” was said during our conversation with Pavol Gomboš. Healthcare IT means working with sensitive data, strict regulations, audits, and documentation that must stand up to regulatory scrutiny. Data cannot simply be moved to the cloud. Every step must be justified and documented. That is why Arcondis does not look only for seniority on paper. The company seeks people who are eager to learn and understand the broader context. IT here is not an isolated discipline but interconnected with biomedicine, manufacturing, legislation, and business.
It is common for a student to start as a part time worker and gradually move through different roles until becoming a technical owner of an application. They become not only the hands of the system but also its voice, communicating with business partners, vendors, and stakeholders. Responsibility grows together with them.
Synergy That Transforms Medicine
In the past, doctors worked with simple tools. Today, patients wear smart devices that generate real time data. Home testing kits communicate via Bluetooth. Results are securely transmitted to physicians’ systems, enabling them to continue their work. However, they need a digital backbone that is reliable, secure, and validated. This is precisely where Arcondis acts as a bridge between healthcare and technology.
A Culture That Cannot Be Explained in Two Interview Rounds
During our visit, we sensed strong teamwork, expertise without arrogance, and a natural awareness that their work has real impact. “We want colleagues to feel comfortable and free,” said Maroš Valent. It may sound simple, but in a highly regulated and demanding environment, it is a conscious choice. In Košice, Arcondis is building a community of experts who work behind the scenes, yet whose impact is visible in the quality of healthcare.
That is why, at Košice IT Valley, we are honored to have among our members a company that proves technology can have a quiet yet fundamental impact on human health.
