On November 20, 2025, a new era of computing began in Košice. The Technical University of Košice officially launched the PERUN supercomputer, whose computing power, data capacity, and energy efficiency place it among the world’s leading systems.
PERUN is a supercomputer designed not only for scientific research but also for practical use in industry. With a performance of 10.16 PFlops, 12,800 processor cores, 208 NVIDIA H200 GPU accelerators, 115 TB of RAM, and 29 TB of GPU memory, it can process tasks that would take conventional technologies an entire week to compute.
At the HPC Forum Košice, organized by Košice IT Valley in cooperation with the Technical University of Košice, several practical use cases of high-performance computing were presented. Richard Farkaš from U. S. Steel Košicedemonstrated opportunities for optimizing production and predicting equipment failures. Vladimír Banóci from Deutsche Telekom IT Solutions discussed accelerating the development of digital services, while Peter Drotár, representing the startup CortexVision, presented the use of HPC for real-time image processing in healthcare and security applications.
PERUN is the first Slovak supercomputer equipped with a quantum simulator, and it also ranked 31st in the Green500 ranking of the world’s most energy-efficient supercomputers. It serves both research and real business needs — and this dual purpose is what makes it exceptional.
