BRATISLAVA / KOŠICE, 2 October 2026 – Free digital learning resources and technical workshops will help develop cloud skills in Slovakia. Košice IT Valley and the Slovak Alliance for Innovation Economy (SAPIE) have signed two separate Memoranda of Understanding with Amazon Web Services (AWS). The collaboration connects Slovakia’s technology ecosystem with AWS expertise and opens up new learning opportunities for members of both organisations and the wider technology community.
The memoranda establish a framework for cooperation between AWS and Košice IT Valley and SAPIE. Through this collaboration, AWS technologies, expertise and programmes will become more accessible to companies, universities, students, researchers and other organisations across Slovakia’s technology ecosystem.
Opportunities for Slovak Technology Talent
One of the key areas addressed by the collaboration is access to professional training and opportunities for Slovak technology talent.
“Slovakia has high-quality technology talent, yet too many people leave for markets that offer faster access to advanced technologies and the skills associated with them. This memorandum addresses one part of that challenge by opening up access to AWS training and expert support for our members and the wider ecosystem. Our goal is to help ensure that people can do the most exciting work right here in Slovakia, rather than seeing it as a reason to leave,” says Michal Kardoš, CEO of SAPIE.
As an organisation connecting innovative companies, entrepreneurs and public institutions, SAPIE will also focus on consultations concerning cloud computing policies and data classification in Slovakia.
Connecting Companies, Universities and Experts
For Košice IT Valley, a regional technology cluster connecting technology companies, universities and the public sector in eastern Slovakia, the memorandum provides a framework for developing cloud skills, launching educational initiatives and sharing knowledge with member organisations and other ecosystem stakeholders.
“Signing this Memorandum of Understanding marks an important step towards connecting eastern Slovakia’s technology ecosystem with AWS expertise and international opportunities. We see significant potential in digital skills, education, talent development and innovation, as well as in building practical connections between companies, universities, research institutions and the public sector,” says Miriama Hučková, CEO of Košice IT Valley.
AWS also emphasises the importance of practical learning.
“We are pleased to support Košice IT Valley and SAPIE in their efforts to develop cloud skills in Slovakia. Through programmes such as AWS Skill Builder, AWS Educate and AWS Academy, as well as technical workshops, we aim to make practical cloud education more accessible to Slovakia’s technology community,” says Jiří Svěrák, AWS Public Sector, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Southeast Europe.
The memoranda were signed by representatives of the organisations on 2 October 2026 in New York, during a visit by a Slovak delegation under the auspices of the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO). The agreements are valid for 12 months. Partners will develop specific activities by mutual agreement and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the individual programmes.
