The first written mention of Prešov is from November 7, 1247. In the past, historically since the granting of city rights, it focused on management activities, which initially had an impact only on the surrounding towns and villages, later on, the entire region. This is due to its geographical location, as it is built at the crossroads of major trade routes.
Prešov, with a population of about 90,000, is the third-largest city in Slovakia. It is home to several regional authorities and is also the administrative centre of the Prešov self-governing region, which is the largest in Slovakia.
