Girls have the same potential and talent in IT

Bratislava, Košice April 27, 2017: On Thursday, April 27, 2017, Slovakia will re-join the global IT support initiative called Girl’s Day. Women in Information and Communication Technologies are remembered by people in more than 16 countries around the world. Slovakia joined the global initiative for the first time in 2014. The President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska, also supported Girl’s Day for the third time in a row. Košice IT Valley is also supporting the event this year.

“Overall, around 30% of women work in different positions in this region, which is a very good figure for this sector. We are around 25% in the world. However, if we only want to talk about IT positions as a programmer, administrator and so on, then we fall to the level of 14% ”, so according to Pavel Mirossay, director of Košice IT Valley, it is necessary to educate young girls so that IT is not a taboo.

“Next year, we would like to create significantly more opportunities and places for girls from Eastern Slovakia, also thanks to the support of Košice IT Valley,” said Petra Kotuliaková, Director of the Association of You in IT. Slovak version of this international day. This is why they chose Košice this year to open Girl’s Day.

“Girls are as clever as boys. We can no longer afford to lose their talent and potential. We lack too many computer scientists and women are great in this area. That’s why we have to get them here, ”she continued.
